Nothing marks the beginning of a new school year more than Picture Day, am I right? Fresh haircuts, clean outfits, a sense of being “new” or “older”. Picture Day brings excitement (and a little bit of chaos) to every child, classroom, school and family every single year. What shouldn’t it bring? A circa 1996 stale-looking photo.
It’s time for a fresh take on school photos. With ten years under my belt as a Boston family photographer – and as a mom of three who get their photos taken annually – I can unequivocally say that parents really want to love the images that come home after School Picture Day. Chances are, they don’t. I’m here to change that reaction. Let’s make school photos another thing that brings joy to families. I have been taking school pictures at Boston area preschools for the last five years and in that time I have created portraits of hundreds of beautiful little people. Despite the fact I have consistently received rave reviews from parents about the children’s images, I find that school administrators still have uncertainty about switching to a new photographer or walking away from traditional big box school portrait providers.
