Cara captured the love and joy and comedy of having children all in a few simple shots. Her natural talent coupled with her way of making children feel comfortable and engaged made the photo shoot a fun family event. We love the pictures and will treasure them always!

FAMILY SESSION INFORMATION

If you've landed on this page, you must be thinking about hiring a family photographer! Below I have summarized a bit of information about what a session with me will be like and how the process works. I hope this will help you decide if my style of photography is a good fit for your family. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all! ( cara@carasoulia.com | 617.501.4008 )

When I send out post-session surveys to my clients, the top three words they use to describe their session with me are natural, relaxed and fun.  I couldn’t have said it better myself!

My aim for every family session is not to set you up into a bunch of poses and force you and your kids to look at the camera and smile.  Quite the opposite, my goal is for you to feel comfortable and relaxed, like you’re hanging out with a friend (who just happens to have her awesome camera at her side).

No need to worry about feeling awkward in front of the camera or nervous about your children behaving.  I am a mom of three and relating to kids of all ages is my specialty.  I’ll provide helpful advice in terms session flow and poses that aren’t forced and awkward.  Then we’ll run around and play and do whatever comes naturally.  There are no rules, just gentle guidance from me about where to go and what to do.   Your job is to just play and hang out with your kids — I’ll capture the love and connection in your family in a beautiful and artistic way.

WHAT TO EXPECT…

The fee for a family session is $350.  (This fee is for session only. Prints, products and digital files are purchased separately) Sessions usually last about 45 minutes to an hour — kids tend to run out of attention span after that time period!

We can create family images at your home or a nearby park or I can give you some suggestions for beautiful outdoor locations in the Boston area!

Sessions are kept relaxed and natural with minimal posing or props.  Children are able to run, explore, and ask questions, etc.  I will take a nice variety of posed and candid shots during the session and will be sure to include any of your specific shot requests.

Your session fee includes a pre-session phone consultation, during which we will discuss location, timing, wardrobe and your overall vision for the session.  Pets are always welcome to join… they are part of the family, too!!

WHAT TO WEAR…

I recommend picking clothing for your family that coordinates, but doesn’t match perfectly.  Select 2-3 colors that complement each other and then add texture and layers when possible.  Feel free to bring items that have significance or meaning to your children. A handmade outfit or blanket, or perhaps a favorite lovey or toy. Incorporating these details will make your portraits even more unique and special to your family.

WHAT TO BRING

With little ones, it’s helpful to bring a comb, tissues, water, and a non-messy snack (like goldfish or animal crackers).  Leave behind the big stroller and diaper bag, if possible. Don’t forget to take your phone out of your back pocket and remove any hair ties from your wrist!  I’ll give you a quick once over before we begin, too, to be sure everything is just how you want it !

WHAT NEXT….   Within three weeks after your session I will professionally edit and tone the very best images from our time together and upload them to an online gallery.  Each photo will be presented in color and black & white.  A typical family session yields about 40-50 unique images.  Please inquire if you would like to see some sample galleries from my family clients. Apples + Pumpkins + Donuts = Smiles Galore! | Boston Fall Photo Session

Can you feel it? The crisp air is arriving. I’m just looking back at my portfolio of this fantastic family because I have the pleasure of seeing them again very soon. These images remind me how perfect Fall is for a Boston Fall Photo Session. Not only is the light just right, but the ever-evolving foliage offers photographers (like me!) a different scene for every single family. No two days are alike.

Extended Family Session – Needham Family Photography

Extended Family Session – Needham Family Photography

Back in October, I met up with this special family to capture an extended family photo session at the Arnold Arboretum. When I first talked to Mom, she expressed to me how important this family photography session was to them. The family had had lost both grandfathers within just two weeks of each other the year before. Needless to say; it had been a tough year for everyone. But, it also made them realize how important family time is. And, not only spending time together, but capturing and documenting those moments in photography. So, that’s why she really wanted to include the grandmothers in their family photography session.

Family of 3 in Charlestown – Boston Baby Shoot

Little Liam was born back in July and we had originally scheduled this session to take place in the fall, to capture him at three months old. But we ended up postponing the session several times almost all the way to Christmas due to family illness, a rash on Liam’s face, and other hurdles that set us back!  I loved how it worked out because with little Liam being older, he was that much more expressive. There’s such an exceptional period of motor skill growth between three and five months. Babies start having the cutest expressions and making the cutest noises, and you start to see more smiles, more laughs, and more personality. Liam was right on the edge of learning to roll over, too!

And just like that another year has come to a close and it’s time for my very favorite post:  the “BEST OF” post!! I get to look back on all the wonderful memories I witnessed in the last 12 months and select my absolute favorite images of the year.  This is never an easy task, but at least it’s getting easier as I get to include one additional image with each passing year!  ( This year is the top 18 of 2018 )

It was an unseasonably warm afternoon in October when I met up with this family in Hull, MA for their family portrait session. Mom and I were both worried it would be too cold for a beach session, but the weather turned out to be amazing. The sky and sunset were exquisite. We all felt so lucky to have such perfect weather for their beach session in Boston.

Sweet Saachi & Family, Needham Family Photo Session

There’s something so beautiful about fall in New England, even when it’s rainy and dreary. It was such a delight to meet up with sweet little Saachi and her family at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, Massachusetts for a family photo session filled with fall foliage, despite a rainy start.

Moving on! Needham Family Photographer

Moving on! Needham Family Photographer

This summer,  I met up with a Needham family for a session that was especially near and dear to my heart.

I have known this family of five for a long time now. Their oldest daughter has been good friends with my own daughter since they were in Kindergarten! When I heard the news that they would be relocating to the Washington, D.C. area, I knew it would be hard to say goodbye. It’s so hard to see friends leave, especially since they’ve built up such an amazing network of friends here in town.
