There is hardly anything more amazing in the world than being pregnant. Having experienced it three times myself, I also know there is hardly anything more uncomfortable, too. The aches and pains, the nausea, the constant NEED to PEE. The LACK of WINE.
Being pregnant is simultaneously the best of times and the worst of times.

The last time I saw Lila, she was two months old…just a tiny baby in her proud parents’ arms. Her Mom & Dad had just become parents for the first time, and they were so head over heels in love with their new baby girl. Singing has always been a big part of my life. When I was little, I loved to sing all the time. I can remember waiting for my favorite songs to come on the radio so I could record them onto a cassette tape. Then I would play them over and over again until I had the words memorized. I’m sure I drove my family crazy with my constant singing! Later on, in college, I sang in an all female a cappella group. Everybody knows how hard it is to become a parent for the first time, but I think it is equally difficult to transition from having just one child to having two children. I remember how overwhelmed my husband and I felt to suddenly both have our hands full all. the. time. And we longingly looked back at how easy we had it with just one!!
I photographed this family just ten weeks after they welcomed their second baby into their home and I was so impressed with how much they had their act together — certainly more than I ever did after having my second! Maybe two months is the magic amount of time it takes to transition (I’ve completely forgotten!) or maybe these parents are just naturals, but boy was I envious of their level of cool and calm.

When Dad inquired about having a photo session with his newborn son, he made a point of telling me that their home was small. He was concerned about whether there would be enough space to create beautiful photos. I told him not to worry — as long as he had a window in his house we would be OK.
