Everybody knows how hard it is to become a parent for the first time, but I think it is equally difficult to transition from having just one child to having two children. I remember how overwhelmed my husband and I felt to suddenly both have our hands full all. the. time. And we longingly looked back at how easy we had it with just one!!
I photographed this family just ten weeks after they welcomed their second baby into their home and I was so impressed with how much they had their act together — certainly more than I ever did after having my second! Maybe two months is the magic amount of time it takes to transition (I’ve completely forgotten!) or maybe these parents are just naturals, but boy was I envious of their level of cool and calm.
Introducing sweet Sam and big brother Jake. It’s only a matter of time before (more…)
When Dad inquired about having a photo session with his newborn son, he made a point of telling me that their home was small. He was concerned about whether there would be enough space to create beautiful photos. I told him not to worry — as long as he had a window in his house we would be OK. In fact, sometimes I feel it is easier to create stunning images in smaller spaces. There are less options for different settings, of course, but there are also (more…)
A mutual friend introduced me to this fantastic couple who just became parents for the first time. They brought their new baby boy home to their condo in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay. From the very first phone call, I felt like I was talking to an old friend. We swapped stories about our pregnancies, our babies, and the trials and tribulations of being sleep deprived parents. I was so excited to finally meet her in person after she gave birth to her second daughter. I arrived at their home for our newborn session and met big sister Lila and her dad at the front door. It made perfect sense that Karen’s husband Matt was just as warm and easy going and she was. What a beautiful, down to earth family of four. I truly feel so lucky to have met them. (more…)
When I arrived at this family’s home, they told me right away that their sweet bundle had been awake nearly the whole night before. They were exhausted. And boy could I relate to their pain. Having just had a baby myself five months ago, the memories of those first days home from the hospital with a new baby are extremely fresh in my mind.
The sleep deprivation is brutal and it feels like it will never end. Friends, family, doctors, nurses and strangers on the street all give their advice and remind you that newborns have their days and nights backwards, and that you should sleep when baby sleeps, blah blah blah!! But really, it’s just not that easy to (more…)
