The new year has arrived, and if you’re anything like me, you’re walking around full of dreams, aspirations, and goals that you hope will occur in the months ahead.

And if you’re reading this, perhaps a new baby is part of that list.

A big part.

OK, likely the biggest.

If you’re expecting in 2020, congratulations! I know you’re flooded with emotions. I’ve had three children myself, and preparing for each one was exhilarating, scary, and exhausting at once.

And if you’re already expecting, time might feel like it’s already flying by quickly. You’re organizing a nursery, learning about necessary supplies (and how to use them!), and potentially preparing for time away from work. Life is going to change.

I’m here to help ensure you capture the sheer joy of the early weeks.

As a Boston area newborn photographer, I am so lucky to meet dozens of families every year shortly after they welcome a new baby.

And each family tells me the same thing: Photographing the early days with a new baby is a singular and glorious opportunity.

Thank goodness they planned ahead for their newborn session, because it’s pretty hard to accomplish, well, anything, during the first several weeks ahead a baby is born.

If you’re hoping to photograph your little one (or your twins!), rest assured I will make it the easiest and loveliest experience you can imagine. So easy that I’ll even take the issue about when and how to plan for it off your plate.

You should schedule your newborn photo session when you plan your nursery. Add it to your tasks of things you can do ahead of time.

Rest assured, I know a car seat and a comfortable and safe place to sleep are more important than photos, but I also know you’re going to be delirious with joy and interrupted sleep for many weeks, so I’m telling you now: Cross this off your list. Call me or email me and say: “Cara, I am due February 15.” We’ll swap details and you’ll file me away. Then, once the baby arrives and you’ve figured out how to fit a shower into a day, you’ll send me another note and we’ll book a time.

Your only to-do will be telling me when to come.

It is that easy.

And I promise you. It doesn’t matter if the house is a mess. It doesn’t matter if your shower is actually two days of dry shampoo. It doesn’t even matter if your baby is cranky.

I promise to be quiet, kind, gracious, and loving. I promise that having a newborn session is a fantastic experience. Do you want more details and specifics? Check out my recent post on Tips for a Simple and Sweet Newborn Session.

Here’s the good news: I’m not coming to photograph you for a magazine profile or a fancy lifestyle Instagram feed. I’m coming to capture your new real life. The days when everything changed. I’m here to make sure you have the chance to remember them in the years ahead because you took the time to book that session.

So, go ahead, change a diaper. Nurse a baby. Bathe your child. I’ve done it all and I’ve seen it all. Let’s capture it for you.

Oh, and I *love* siblings. And pets. So bring it on. I promise they’ll be laughing and enjoying the time we spend together.
