It’s all in the details | Larz Anderson Family Portraits

A few weeks ago I highlighted a moment from a recent family session at beautiful Larz Anderson park in Brookline. As I was thinking more about why I loved this session so much, I realized that although the weather was perfect, the family was so fun and easygoing and the location was sublime, it was the details that made the session so awesome.

To start off, mom & dad brought along some balloons and letters that spelled out O-N-E. After all, their daughter Penny had just celebrated her first birthday and that’s kind of a big deal. If you were to ask me if I’m the type of girl who uses a bunch of props when shooting, I would immediately say no! But sometimes…it can be done and it doesn’t have to be cheesy! (having a matching tutu makes everything work!)

Penny’s lovey, a plush doll named Annabelle, came along to the session for moral support, but ended up playing a big role in a number of photos. I love how much Penny loves her. This will certainly be a memory her parents will cherish forever.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better, I saw a beautiful quilt peeking out of the diaper bag. I am a fierce knitter and I can spot something handmade a mile away! Turns out this afghan was made for Penny by her grandmother. What an awesome backdrop for a portrait!

And last but definitely not least is the significance of the stone bench at the bottom of the hill — one cold and wintry day, Penny’s dad proposed to Penny’s mom at this bench when they were sledding. How symbolic to come back to this very special spot with their one year old daughter! I hope they continue to come here for photos as their family grows. What a fun tradition!
