The weeks leading up to the birth of a first child are often a blur, don’t you agree?
Whether you’re taking it easy to get ready for a new baby or rushing non-stop to prepare, the anticipation that comes before a new arrival is different – yet special and unique – for everyone.
That’s why I was so happy to connect with this soon-to-be new mom for her first-ever maternity portrait session.

Empowering women to love and embrace their changing bodies during pregnancy is one of my favorite parts of being a photographer, so much so that I recently opened my own portrait studio.
I’ve done maternity portraits for years, but most are outside, as the fresh air and environment (green, floral, and yes, even snow!) is always invigorating. But I felt like I really needed a space for women seeking intimate, private, quiet sessions.
Many women invite me into their homes, too, which is where I met this stunning mama-to-be. Sitting with her, hearing her talk about the pregnancy, all I could think was: This is true beauty.
Preparations were well underway, as she was already 36 weeks at the time of our session! I loved seeing her family heirloom bassinet all ready to go, along with a hat and blanket crocheted by hand by the baby’s grandmother.
This session was purely for this expecting mother. So comfortable with her body and thrilled for what was ahead, we had a lovely time capturing images that she’ll have forever.
And, as always, I promise to include anything special in your session. In this case, it was two sweet and adorable fur babies, who were happy to participate!
So much is about to change for this stunning woman. I know someday she’ll look back on these images and reflect on who she was before she became a mother. My hope is that we captured it perfectly.
