As far as the world can tell, Ezra Jack is the fourth child in this beautiful, warm and loving family. But what is not apparent from appearances alone, is that he is technically the fifth baby in this family. Ezra is a “rainbow baby” — a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. Like all the newborns I photograph, he is sweet and adorable and amazing, but
Ezra is even more special because he represents all the joy and hope that is possible after one of life’s very difficult storms.
I struggle a little to write about what it’s like to have a rainbow baby, because I have not experienced this type of loss firsthand, and therefore can’t fully understand the unique sadness, fear, and eventual joy that families like Ezra’s come to know. One thing I can recognize and appreciate, however, is how much strength it must take to have loved and lost, and to have found the courage to love again. What a mix of emotions it must have been to bring this baby home! Ezra’s mom is a long time close friend so I wanted more than anything give to her the gift of beautiful images to remember this precious time. I wanted to capture her family’s love and long-awaited joy in an intimate, real and beautiful way.
Biggest and littlest. This reminds me of my own boys and melts my heart.Surrounded with love and joy… Sweet Ezra, you are a gift. Thank you for being an amazing silver lining for this family.
