I’m a massive Halloween fan. I love the process of dreaming up costumes with my three kids, envisioning how we’ll create them together, and then pulling it all off (right up to the last second, of course).
We have a ball every year, and that got me thinking: As a Needham Children’s Photographer, what do I hope makes my family sessions different than others? If you ask the kids, I think they’ll say they love to have fun.

That’s my first question for any new client: What are you hoping to see in the images from your family session?
Are you looking to capture the personas of your family right now, in this moment in time?
Do you want images that show your authentic selves?
Would you like the time to go smoothly, feel casual and inviting, and elicit actual (vs. forced) smiles from your family?
Whenever I look back at images from my own family, my favorites are not those of the perfectly posed kids in their matching outfits. It’s the ones where I see the true joy on their faces.
Or the curiosity as they investigate the area and don’t know I am taking a photo.
And the snickers between them as they make fun of me and think I can’t hear them.
In my house, Halloween kicks off several weeks of fall and winter fun. It also falls smack dab in the middle of my busiest time of the year as a Needham Children’s Photographer.
Thank goodness it’s a ton of fun, right?
