I can hardly believe I am sitting down to write my “Best of” blog post already! It has been the longest year of our lives and yet somehow it feels surreal that we are already so close to the end!!
Preparing this blog post is always incredibly difficult and 2020 was no exception — I photographed over one hundred families in 2020 and created thousands and thousands of images! To choose my top 20 is like trying to choose my favorite child!! But sorting through the images, I could feel certain emotions emerging from the photographs that resonated with me the most: LOVE for your family, JOY for everything you have right now and HOPE for the future.
The images I chose for my Top 20 of 2020 are those that represent the overwhelming positive emotions that my clients felt despite the pandemic and despite the challenges we all faced during this very difficult year. Life was still happening. Women were expecting babies for the first time, newborns were being welcomed into the world, children were celebrating birthdays and loving their new pandemic puppies, and parents were taking more time to act silly with their kids (how many people can we fit in the treehouse anyway?!). Moms and Dads were hugging their babies tight, giving extra kisses and tickles and playing games in the backyard.
THANK YOU for sharing your LOVE and JOY with me. I do not take it for granted that I was there to witness some the very best moments of your year.

And I had to throw in a bonus image…because in an election year, I just couldn’t leave it out 🙂

I can hardly believe I’m already sitting down on the last day of the year (and the decade!) to write my most beloved blog post of the year — the “Best Of” 2019! This post takes me an exceptionally long time to compile because I spend hours looking back at each and every session, reviewing all of the best moments from the past year, remembering each family and each story. It is always incredibly hard to choose my top images of the year.
This year, it feels more important than ever to choose the images that truly set me apart as a Boston family photographer. To be quite frank, any photography hobbyist with a good camera, or really any regular person with the latest iPhone, can take a decent photo these days. And as more and more photographers pop up in the Boston area, it feels crucial to express why I am not just good at taking standard family photos.
When you decide to have a photo session with me, you are investing in my years of experience with babies and children, my knowledge of light, my innate sense of composition and my unique point of view. You are investing in ME.
Best Family Photography Boston
The following set of images is not a typical group of well composed, well lit photos of happy people looking into the camera.
Some of these images are split second moments that illuminate the essence of an environment, a season, or a personality, or an emotion.
Some of these images capture subjects in a unique and artistic way.
Some of these images tell beautiful and emotional stories.
All of these images are the ones that set my heart on fire.
These are my top 19 of 2019.

And just like that another year has come to a close and it’s time for my very favorite post: the “BEST OF“ post!! I get to look back on all the wonderful memories I witnessed in the last 12 months and select my absolute favorite images of the year. This is never an easy task, but at least it’s getting easier as I get to include one additional image with each passing year! ( This year is the top 18 of 2018 )
Boston Newborn and Family Photographer
2018 was my busiest year in business yet, as I photographed almost 50 families, 10 newborns and four preschools! This might not sound like a lot, but it’s a LOT!! I handle everything in my business from blogging to marketing to editing to accounting and I spend oodles of of time on each client, both in preparation for a session and afterwards. I always want to ensure that the images in every family’s gallery really capture the essence of their life right at that moment. This take lots of preparation, focus, energy and a healthy dose of creative magic!! :). It can be exhausting at times to run a business by yourself, but it truly is worthwhile when a client tells me I really ‘got them’ or the images made them cry when they looked at them.

When selecting my favorites from the thousands of images I made in 2018, I chose with the images that grabbed me instantly when I viewed them. These are the ones that really make me feel something when I look at them. I could stare at each of these for a long time and take in the details big and small, remembering exactly how it felt to press the shutter and create each and every one.

Choosing my favorite images from the last 12 months is one of my favorite year end activities! (You can view the past years “Best of” Lists here) This year, I find myself looking through all the moments and just feeling so darn lucky that I get to do something I love so much for my job. It might surprise you to know that just a few short years ago, I was working full time as an analyst at an asset management firm in Boston. I had a challenging, stable career, but I could never shake the sense that I was put on this earth to do something very different.
My whole life I’ve loved taking pictures, but I wasn’t always (more…)
I’ve spent the last few days sorting through the thousands of images I’ve made over the past last 12 months in preparation for writing my annual “best of” blog series. It is never easy to choose just a handful of favorites because there are so many that I love. But is fun to sort back and relive every session and recognize the images that speak to me the most. And once I’ve made my choices, I love to see how my favorites look together and what themes arise in my work.
As I looked through this year, I noticed the ones I loved the most were (more…)
