The twin boys in this family attend a preschool where I take school portraits and I was honored to photograph their family last summer at one of their favorite stomping grounds (and mine!), the Arnold Arboretum.

My husband has a fraternal twin brother, so I have a soft spot for parents with twin boys. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is just how different twin personalities can be, and these sweet little boys were no exception

Before I became a photographer, I had this notion that I wanted to be a nurse. I have an old drawing I did when I was a little girl that says, “I want to be a nurse when I grew up so I can help people.” And after I became a mom, I thought quite seriously about pursuing a career as a labor & delivery or a postpartum nurse. Like many others, my experiences with the nurses before, during and after the delivery of my three children were, quite simply, amazing. These women play such an important role at a most vulnerable time in our lives. It feels like our birth stories aren’t complete without the mention of the wonderful nurses at our side throughout. For as long as I can remember, I have longed to have a career that was as fulfilling as being a nurse.

But I had to be honest with myself — I’m

One of the things I love about my job is that I’m sometimes connected with a family in one capacity and then given the opportunity to photograph some other aspect of their lives. In this case, my work taking school portraits introduced me to this gorgeous family of five. We chose the Arnold Arboretum, where they frequently go for walks together, as the backdrop for their family session.

When a mutual friend introduced me to this family’s mama, it was love at first sight. Earlier this year, I was at my friend’s annual Kentucky Derby party and this beautiful lady and I happened to have on the biggest (and best, if I do say so myself) hats at the party. It was destiny that we should meet! We started chatting and one thing led to another and the following weekend I was photographing her family at the Arboretum. We were lucky that the lilacs and a few other trees were still in bloom!

It was a hot and sunny evening in June when I met up with this family of four at the Arnold Arboretum in Roslindale. The last time I saw them was a full year ago at their home, just after second baby was born. It was so much fun to see them again and to see how much their girls have grown!

I’ll just sum it up by saying: sessions like this make me giddy. These images are what happens when

I love that this session was just mom and the girls. I love how much the big girls are in love their baby sister. I love how much personality baby sister has, at just one year old!

But most of all, I love that Dad didn’t know anything about these photos — an awesome and super thoughtful surprise by mom!

fall family | Boston Family Portraits

As summer is winding down, I am sorting through hundreds of images from last year and prepping for the busy season ahead.  I realized I never blogged a few awesome families from last fall, including this one!!

This family is a long time client and they are some of my very favorite people to photograph! We were so lucky to have perfect foliage for their session, which also happened to celebrate their son Sammy’s first birthday.

A fine summer evening | Boston Family Photographer

It was a picture perfect summer evening when I met up with this family of four at the one of my very favorite locations in Boston — the Arnold Arboretum. I can always count on something blooming there and lucky for us, this family of four also happened to be wearing clothes that coordinated with the flowers! Have you ever seen a more beautiful foursome?! I had such a hard time narrowing favorites to share from this session!
